Micromax Canvas XP: The affordable 4G Smartphone

Micromax has always surprised us with its offerings. Since its inception Micromax has launched mobiles with exceptional features at unbelievable prices. With all the launches under the Canvas series this year, Micromax is aiming to take a bigger bite of the smartphone segment-under-15k.  It has also been able to make its mark on the ecommerce channels after capturing nearly 11% of the online market last year.

The new Canvas XP is no different. At Rs 7499, the Micromax Canvas XP is the company’s latest addition to its mid-range lineup of handsets and one of the very few smartphones with 3GB RAM under Rs. 8000. This new smartphone under the Canvas series is making waves in the Indian market due to the great features it promises at this price point. The highlights being its 3GB RAM and 4G LTE Connectivity which are truly unique in this price range. Like the other phones in the impressive Canvas lineup, Canvas XP too has a rectangular designed plastic build with the rear camera and LED flash placed symmetrically.

The Canvas XP comes with a 5-inch screen which has a IPS HD Display and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which means a 294 ppi. It measures 142.7x72.8x8.7 mm and weighs 124 grams. Powered by MediaTek (MT6735P) Quad-core processor clocked at 1GHz, the Canvas XP has a 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a microSD slot for storage, expandable up to 32GB. The Canvas XP runs on Android 5.1 on top on Indus OS which supports 10 Indian languages. The connectivity options on this phone include Dual SIM, Wi-Fi, 4G LTEm GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio and Micro USB 2.0. The battery in the Micromax Canvas XP however is a meager 2000 mAh one. The phone which comes with a 2MP front camera and 8MP rear camera with LED flash might not reel in the photography buffs but at the given price, it is definitely a good deal.

Though the phone has an underpowered processor, small battery and no Marshmallow, it still has enough going for it at its price point. However, it does face competition from the ‘Yu Yuphoria’ from Micromax, Intex Cloud Star 4G, InFocus Bingo 50 and the Coolpad Note 3 Lite which has a better camera and a fingerprint sensor at just 6999.

Overall, the Micromax Canvas XP 4G is definitely a strong contender in the market. Like all other Micromax offerings, this phone too, has an USP which is its ability to help customers upgrade to 4G without hurting their pockets a lot.
