The most stunning part of the Great Himalayas in India is Ladakh. Ladakh is also known as the ‘land of high passes”. It is wedged between several countries such as China, Tibet and Pakistan. It also forms the eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir. Leh is the capital of Ladakh to the north of which lies Nubra Valley, a very beautiful enclave cradled by rocky Mountains. This region basically comprise of two valleys, that are, Nubra Valley and Shyok. The rivers of both the valleys rise from amidst the remote through the Karakoram Range. As far as tourism is concerned, both of them join together the mighty Indus before flowing westwards into the country Pakistan. The main question arises that why do we need to visit Nubra?
Most of the boundaries of Ladakh look almost impenetrable on the map but this place compromise large mountain, valleys and large uninhabited hinterlands. Due to the presence of several routes, there is a great canvas of wool, spices, cloth, opium, skins, indigo, gold and corals and it passes especially between Yarkand in China and Leh. Large number of visitors visits Ladakh every year and hence increases the tourism. One of the very interesting features that mostly remain out of reach is Siachen Glacier which is the second largest glacier in the world exisiting outside the polar region. Sometimes, it is also referred as the world’s coolest and highest battlefield.
The journey to this place is considered to be one of the world’s highest motorable roads. Diskit is a commercial village of Nubra but it looks like a modest little place and also like an overgrown village. One of the main attractions here is a Diskit Gompa which is a monastery which is situated at a high place on a craggy spur. You can drive to this place but what make your trip more interesting is when you reach the place while walking among the mani walls and chortens. From here, if you go 10 kilometers further than you can see Hunder village where you can camels grazing on the landscape between the foot of the mountains and Shyok River. Overall, it is a very pleasant place with a scenic view.
